WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's and women's tennis teams will close out fall competition at Intercollegiate Tennis Associate Regional Championships this weekend. The Hoyas will compete in the Atlantic Region with the men at the University of Virginia and the women at Old Dominion University.
The event is one of the largest in the nation featuring over 8,000 student-athletes and will go on throughout the remainder of the fall with winners advancing each weekend.
Georgetown had a pair of women earn seeds in the tournament after outstanding play in previous events. Graduate student Stephanie Wetmore (Mississauga, Ontario/Appleby College) was awarded the 13th seed after winning the past three tournaments she has competed in. She also joins junior Lauren Greco (Oakmont, Pa./Shady Side Academy) as the ninth-seeded doubles pair. Only a select number of players earn seeds at the event.
Men's play began today and the women will start up on Thursday. The championship for both events will be held on Monday.
Results will be available throughout the weekend on www.GUHoyas.com in each team's respective schedule.
