Oct. 4, 2010

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University senior goalkeeper Matthew Brutto (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) was named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week and also earned a spot on the BIG EAST Conference Honor Roll after a pair of outstanding performances this past week. Sophomore midfielder Ian Christianson (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Christian Life) was also named to the conference's honor roll.

Brutto posted two shutouts last week as the Hoyas went 2-0 including a 1-0 win over No. 21 West Virginia University on Saturday at North Kehoe Field. The senior tallied four saves after 90 minutes in goal in the 2-0 victory over Adelphi on Wednesday evening at Multi-Sport Field. The contest was the first-ever soccer game played under the lights at home for the Blue & Gray.

On Saturday, Brutto managed a defense that downed the Mountaineers, 1-0, with two saves to his credit. The keeper now has three shutouts on the season and two over ranked opponents.

This is Brutto's second BIG EAST honor after earning Goalkeeper of the Week following opening weekend, it is also his second-career nod to the honor roll.

Christianson had a big week as well with a goal and an assist for three points over two games. The sophomore tallied an assist in the victory over Adelphi with one shot on goal. The coaches selected him to take a penalty kick on Saturday against West Virginia which he connected on for the game winner. It marked his second PK of the season. Christianson is leading the squad with six point on two goals and as many assists for the year.

Georgetown is 4-4-1 on the season and 1-1 in the BIG EAST. The Hoyas have won their last two home games, but will make the short trip to American University on Wednesday for a matchup with the Eagles at 3 p.m., at Reeves Field.
