WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's soccer team will make the short trip to American University on Wednesday afternoon for a 3 p.m. matchup at Reeves Field. The Hoyas are 4-4-1 on the season after posting a pair of big victories last week. Senior goalkeeper Matthew Brutto (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) was also named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Defender of the Week after the victories.
Georgetown is 4-4-1 as the team closes out its non-conference schedule with American. The Hoyas have gone 3-3-1 in non-conference play with a mark of 1-1 in the BIG EAST. Georgetown is led by sophomore Ian Christianson (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Christian Life) and freshman Steve Neumann (New Hope, Pa./Council Rock North).
Christianson has six points on the season with two goals and as many assists to his credit. The midfielder is 2-2 on penalty kicks scoring the game-winning PK against No. 21 West Virginia on Saturday. For his efforts he was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
Neumann had a pair of assists last week in the win over Adelphi. He has one goal and a team-high four assists on the season.
Brutto was named the ECAC Defender of the Week after earning a spot on the BIG EAST Honor Roll on Monday. The senior had six saves in two games including four against Adelphi and two in the win over West Virginia. He also posted his second and third shutouts of the season. Of his three shutouts, two have come against ranked opponents. Brutto has 33 saves and a 1.19 GAA on the year.
American (5-4, 2-0 Patriot League) has a streak of alternating wins and losses thus far in 2010, as the Eagles are coming off a 2-0 victory at Army on Saturday night. Through nine matches, AU has been led by Alassane Kane, who is currently second in the Patriot League with his four goals. Additionally, Jamie Davin has recorded two game-winners, which places him in a tie atop the conference standings in that category.
Georgetown trails in the series with American, 21-28-3. Under Georgetown Head Coach Brian Wiese, the Hoyas have gone 1-3 against American with the lone win coming in overtime, 2-1, at North Kehoe Field in 2007.
