WASHINGTON - Senior middle blocker Vanessa Dorismond (Cary, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) was named to the BIG EAST Second Team at the 2010 BIG EAST Volleyball Regular-Season Awards Banquet on Thursday evening. Dorismond finished the season with a .296 hitting percentage, first on the squad among the hitters.
"We are very proud of Vanessa and her accomplishments," said Head Coach Arlisa Williams. "Being named to the BIG EAST Second Team is a huge honor for Vanessa but one that could not be reached without the help of her teammates. Just like everything else we do, this was a total team effort."
A Preseason All-Conference selection, this is the second time Dorismond was named to the All-BIG EAST conference team. She led the team in kills per set, averaging 2.91. Dorismond was also first on the squad with 3.50 points per set.
Dorismond missed the first four weeks of the season with a broken foot. She returned to action on Sept. 18 against East Carolina. Dorismond notched 11 kills in her first match of the season.
Dorismond recorded a season-high 20 kills against Furman on Sept. 18. Dorismond set a career-high against Rutgers on Oct. 29 with 11 total blocks. She was second on the team with 0.83 blocks per set.
She was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Sept. 27. The Hoyas finished the season 15-15 and 5-9 in the BIG EAST, tied for ninth in the conference.
