WASHINGTON - Georgetown volleyball (15-14, 5-8 BIG EAST) lost its last away match, 3-1, of the regular season against St. John's (18-11, 5-7 BE) in New York, N.Y on Sunday afternoon. Kortney Robinson (Pleasant Grove, Utah/Pleasant Grove) notched 15 kills and 10 digs. Vanessa Dorismond (Cary, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) also recorded 15 kills, hitting a match-high .423 with four total blocks. The set scores were 19-25, 25-22, 22-25, 21-25.
Two consecutive service aces from Tory Rezin (Morris, Ill./Morris) to start the second set helped propel the Hoyas to an early 3-0 lead. With six ties and two lead changes, St. John's last tied the set at 21. Freshman Brooke Bachesta (Sammamish, Wash./Eastside Catholic) recorded a kill and freshman Elizabeth Riggins (Mission Viejo, Calif./Santa Margarita) notched a service ace to put GU up 23-21. After a SJU kill, Robinson tallied her third kill of the set and Rezin added her third service ace to end the set, 25-22.
Despite hitting .286 in the first set, the Hoyas could not overcome a five-point deficit at 14-9 and lost the set, 25-19. Dorismond recorded seven kills in the first set. The Blue & Gray took a four-point lead in the third set and fought off two set points before falling 25-22. Dorismond added four kills in the third set.
Georgetown started the fourth set down, 2-0, but notched the next four points to take a 4-2 lead. Despite having the lead for the majority of the set, St. John's fought back to tie the score at 19. Down 21-19, a kill from Robinson brought the Hoyas within one at 21-20. After a SJU error, three St. John's kills and a GU error put the set away at 25-22.
The Blue & Gray return home for their regular season match against Villanova on Friday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. in McDonough Arena.
