WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball squad will complete a four-game road swing with a game at Rider University on Saturday in Lawrenceville, N.J. The Blue & Gray has dropped its last two games and is looking to rebound to conclude the road trip which spanned four games including three in just five days.
No. 11/12 Georgetown is 7-3 on the season after falling to the Rutgers University, 70-53, Thursday evening in the squad's BIG EAST opener. Sugar Rodgers (Suffolk, Va./King's Fork) led the way with 19 points, while Rubylee Wright (Latta, S.C./Latta) added 13 and Adria Crawford (Alexandria, Va./Thomas Edison) chipped in 10. Rodgers also led the team with five rebounds. Georgetown shot 38 percent while allowing Rutgers just 34.7 percent shooting from the field, but 18 turnovers and a 45-27 deficit on the boards was too much to overcome.
It marked GU's BIG EAST opener, the Hoyas will not play another conference game until January.
Rodgers leads the Hoyas with 17.9 points per game and 21 steals. Tia Magee (Tulsa, Okla./Jenks) leads the team with 4.4 rebounds per game. Wright has recorded 50 assists on the season.
Rider is 0-7 this season and played three games at home. Most recently, the Broncs fell to Fordham, 67-55. Alicia Hall led the team with 15 points, while MyNeshia McKenzie grabbed a squad-high 10 rebounds. Rider outrebounded Fordham, 38-33, in that contest.
Sheree Lightbourne leads Rider with 8.3 points per game, while Caitlin Bopp is right behind her tallying 8.0 ppg. Bopp also leads the squad averaging 9.5 rebounds per game.
Georgetown is 3-0 all-time against the Broncs, but have never played them on the road. The last meeting was a 77-64 victory at McDonough on November 24, 2001. The previous two victories were during the 1997-98 and 1998-99 season. This will be the first meeting under Head Coach Terri Williams-Flournoy.
