WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball squad will travel to the University of Miami for a Tuesday evening 7 p.m. game against the Hurricanes at BankUnited Center in Coral Gables, Fla. In addition, on Monday, Sugar Rodgers (Suffolk, Va./King's Fork) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
No. 11/13 Georgetown is 7-1 on the season after defeating the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in Winston-Salem, N.C. on Saturday night, 64-49. Rodgers led the way with 20 points, while Monica McNutt (Suitland, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) and Tia Magee (Tulsa, Okla./Jenks) both added 12 points and four steals. Magee led the team with six rebounds, while Rubylee Wright (Latta, S.C./Latta) had a squad-high four assists. Wake Forest turned over the ball 22 times.
Rodgers took a BIG EAST weekly award for the third week in a row. She earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on November 22, which she followed up with her capture of the BIG EAST Player of the Week title on November 29.
Rodgers leads the Hoyas with 17.3 points a game and 19 steals. Magee leads the team with 4.6 rebounds per game. Sydney Wilson (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's College Prep) has recorded nine blocks.
Miami is 7-1 this season after winning at home against California State University Bakersfield, 86-61, on Sunday. Riquna Williams led the team with 24 points, while Morgan Stroman grabbed a team-high 16 rebounds.
Williams leads Miami with 20.5 points per game, while Shenice Johnson averages 9.4 rebounds per game. Three players on the squad average more than 10 points per game.
Tuesday marks the 24th meeting between the Hoyas and the Hurricanes. Georgetown is currently 8-15 against Miami. The last meeting was on January 14, 2004 in Miami, which the Blue & Gray lost, 57-55, in double overtime. At the time, the Hurricanes were a member of the BIG EAST Conference. Miami has won the last six contests against the Hoyas.
