PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Victoria Sekely and Lauren Greco captured the top two singles matches, but Pittsburgh edged the Georgetown University women's tennis team, 4-3 on Saturday afternoon. It was the Hoyas second hard fought 4-3 loss of the weekend.
The Hoyas and Panthers split the first two doubles matches, as Alex Sebia (Plains, Pa./Scranton Prep) and Alexandra Landers (Teaneck, N.J./Immaculate Heart) earned the 8-3 victory in the second doubles spot over Gabrielle Catanzariti and Sabrina Visram. Jacquie Harrison (Encinitas, Calif./La Costa Canyon) and Caroline Kuehn (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook) led 7-4 in the third spot with an opportunity to clinch the point, but Karma Parbhu and Adela Aprodu stormed back for the eventual 9-7 win, clinching a doubles point that proved crucial.
Pittsburgh took a 3-0 lead winning the No. 4 and 5 singles, the first two matches decided in singles play. Lauren Greco (Oakmont, Pa./Shady Side Academy) got the Hoyas a point with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Aprodu. Sebia earned a three set victory over Parbhu, 6¬-3, 5-7, 6-1 and Victoria Sekely clinched a three set victory over Elizabeth Adams in the top singles spot to even the score at 3 matches apiece. But the Panthers would earn a three-set victory in the third singles spot to give the Panthers the match, 4-3.
The Hoyas return to the court on Saturday, February 27 at George Mason.
