BERKELEY, Calif. - Nothing seemed to go Georgetown's way Monday evening as the fifth-seeded Hoya women's basketball squad fell to the fourth-seeded Baylor University Bears (25-9), 49-33. Poor shooting plagued the Blue & Gray all game as GU shot just 17.1 percent from the field.

Things didn't start out well for the Hoyas as the Bears opened with a 10-0 run as Georgetown struggled to hit. Ta'Shauna "Sugar" Rodgers made a layup at 12:23 for the first basket of the game, but the shooting woes continued with GU shooting less than 10 percent from the field for much of the half.

In the final three minutes, the Blue & Gray got it together and managed seven points to make it 31-19 at the break. The point total tied GU's season low and tied the largest halftime deficit of the year.

Latia Magee (Tulsa, Okla./Jenks) led the way with eight points and three rebounds while senior Jaleesa Butler (St. Louis, Mo./Alton) added four. Georgetown shot just 22.2 percent in the half and was outrebounded 23-18. The Hoyas did force 11 turnovers, but committed 11 fouls while Baylor was called for just three in the half including only one on the defensive end.

The second half didn't start much better as the Hoyas went without a field goal until Rodgers hit at 16:29. Defensively, Georgetown was sharp forcing turnovers and missed shots, but just couldn't convert on the other end.

As the minutes ticked away, the Blue & Gray held the deficit steady but couldn't mount a comeback. With the shots not falling Georgetown eventually fell, 49-33.

Rodgers led the team with nine points, Butler tallied a team-high seven rebounds. Georgetown forced 21 Baylor turnovers but shot 11.8 percent in the second half to finish the night hitting 17.1 percent from the field. The Hoyas were also outrebounded 45-44.

Despite the loss, Georgetown finishes the season with a record of 26-7 making it the best season in program history. The Hoyas will graduate three players next year and returns three starters.
