COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Georgetown University women's tennis squad lost to the University of Maryland- College Park Terrepins Wednesday afternoon 6-1. The Hoyas had defeated two BIG EAST opponents this past weekend, but couldn't get the victory in College Park to fall to 6-11overall.
Georgetown lost all three doubles matches, but looked as if it might take one of three at No. 3. The pair of Michelle Pratt (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) and Lauren Greco (Oakmont, Pa./Shady Side Academy) battled for every point but eventually fell 8-6.
At No. 1 singles, Greco was the lone winner on the afternoon. The sophomore was down in the first set, but came back and forced a tiebreaker winning it 7-6 (5). She handily defeated her opponent in the next set winning 6-3 to give Georgetown the point.
Unfortunately, that would be all the team could muster despite some solid efforts. No. 4 Elizabeth Sullivan (Potomac, Md./National Cathedral School) had a solid first set but lost the second as she fell 7-5, 6-1.
The Hoyas will close out the regular season on Friday morning as the squad travels to Seton Hall for a BIG EAST match against the Pirates. The match is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
