PELHAM, N.Y. - The Georgetown University Crew continued with its duel racing season on the Orchard Beach Rowing Course in Pelham, N.Y. against regular season rival Holy Cross on Saturday morning.
The day of racing started out with the varsity eight race. Stroke Paul Keith, Andrew Federer, Joe Ledvina, Patrick Opdyke, Brian Chismar, Andy Olsen, Matt Funk, Peter Holowesko, and coxswain John Geager blasted off the line to take a lenth lead after the first 500 meters. Holy Cross attempted to push back throughout the rest of the 2K race but Georgetown held on for the win in 6:08.6. Holy Cross finished 2.2 seconds later in a time of 6:10.8.
The next race featured the Georgetown freshman eight of Stroke Matt Stewart, Henry Hoffstot, Sam Viola, Mike Hennessy, Charles de Pentheny-O'Kelly, Tim Broughton, Ben Holtzmuller, Mike Blommer, and coxswain Kerri McKie. They were in a tight battle in the first 500 meters, but Georgetown steadily pulled away for the rest of the race finishing in 6:07.1 with open water on Holy Cross who finished with a time of 6:18.9.
In the final matchup of the day, the junior varsity eight event, stroke Tom Skomba, Sean Greany, Chris Kozak, Cameron Hoerner, Peter Holowesko, Kyle Textor, Colin MacDougall, Matt Matyjek and coxswain Carly Heitlinger fought hard to gain a 5 seat advantage by the 500 meter mark. They continued to improve thier lead for the rest of the race. Georgetown finished in a time of 6:30.2, 8.2 seconds in front of Holy Cross who crossed the line in 6:38.4.
Georgetown continues its season next weekend when they travel to New Bruswick, N.J. to face George Washington and Rutgers.
