WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's tennis team held its 2010 awards dinner on Saturday in Georgetown. Head Coach Gordie Ernst and Assistant Coach Adam Gross presented two student-athletes with the team's top honors following the 2010 season.
Sophomore Lauren Greco (Oakmont, Pa./Shady Side Academy) was named the team's Most Valuable Player after transferring to Georgetown from the University of Miami. Greco posted a winning record going 8-4 at No. 2 singles and 2-2 at No. 1 singles to finish with a mark of 10-6 on the season. She finished the year strong downing BIG EAST-rivals Seton Hall, Connecticut, Villanova and Syracuse in the final month of the season.
Freshman Michelle Pratt (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) earned the squad's Coaches Award for her efforts throughout the year. Despite her status as a rookie, Pratt was the consummate team player showing support and spirit for all of her teammates. Her energy level was a constant at every practice and she worked hard to make a name for herself in the lineup. Pratt went 1-1 in singles for the season and was 4-1 with Greco at No. 3 doubles, but proved to be just as valuable off the court coaching her fellow teammates when she wasn't playing.
The Blue & Gray narrowly missed a berth in the BIG EAST Tournament after finishing out the season with a three-team BIG EAST sweep and a record of 7-11 overall. The Hoyas will not lose any players to graduation and are poised for a breakout year in 2011.
