MADISON, Wis. - What should have been four days of competition turned into a little over one day as the Hoyas took part in the 2010 Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association Women's National Championships, held in Madison, Wis., on Lake Mendota. The Hoyas finished 10th overall with a score of 180 while the Cougars of the College of Charleston easily took first with a score of 84 and an impeccable mark of 22 in the A Division.

With minimal wind conditions on the first two days, competition began on Thursday with the Hoyas off to a great start. Taking first place in the second race of the A Division, Sydney Bolger and Rebecca Evans held their own throughout the first two races. Lauren Burke and Katherine Canty took over the B Division, winning the first race and momentarily taking first place from the Cougars.

However, after the course was determined to favor one side over the other, the route was changed and the field evened out. GU's inconsistency proved detrimental as the CofC team in the A Division seemed to master the fickle waters of Lake Mendota. The Hoyas slipped while the Cougars A Division only notched two finishes outside of the top two (4th - race 8; 6th - race 10).

Georgetown narrowly missed out on ninth place as Hobart & William Smith edged out the Hoyas with a tally of 179.

The Hoyas begin the ICSA / APS Team Race National Championship tomorrow, May 29 through Monday, May 31. The ICSA / Gill Coed Dinghy Championship will be held on June 1-3.
