WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's soccer team released its 2010 schedule on Tuesday. The Hoyas will play nine home games at North Kehoe Field and have a challenging road slate including a two-game weekend at New Mexico. Georgetown finished last season 9-8-2 overall and with a mark of 6-5 in the BIG EAST.
The Hoyas will open the season with a home weekend at North Kehoe Field. Georgetown will host Northeastern University on Sept. 3 and Michigan State University the following Sunday at 1 p.m. The Huskies advanced to last year's Colonial Athletic Association's tournament championship before falling to UNC-Wilmington 1-0. The Spartans were NCAA Tournament qualifiers in 2009 for the third-consecutive season.
The following weekend, the Blue & Gray will travel to the University of New Mexico for the 2010 TLC Plumbing, Heating & Cooling Lobo Invitational. A Friday night matchup will pit the Hoyas against the Lobos who have been to the NCAA Tournament eight of the past 10 seasons. On Sunday, GU will play the University of Denver in the four-team event. The weekend will also be a homecoming for seniors Seth C'deBaca (Albuquerque, N.M./Sandia Prep) and Mark Wilber (Tijeras, N.M./Albuquerque Academy), both New Mexico natives.
Georgetown will cap off a three-game road swing with a trip to Princeton, N.J. to take on the Tigers on Sept. 17. Princeton went 4-2-1 in the Ivy League last season and earned an at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament. That Sunday, the Hoyas will continue with the Ivy League battles hosting the University of Pennsylvania Quakers at 1 p.m. Penn Head Coach Rudy Fuller is familiar with the Georgetown system after playing for the Hoyas as an undergrad.
The Blue & Gray will open BIG EAST play at Cincinnati on Sept. 25 as one of two inter-divisional matchups and then hosts Adelphi University on Wednesday.
West Virginia on Oct. 2 marks the beginning of BIG EAST Blue Division play as the Hoyas host the Mountaineers at 1 p.m. at North Kehoe Field. That Wednesday GU will travel to cross-town rival American to close out the non-conference schedule.
Georgetown will play at Providence on Oct. 9 and host Seton Hall and Red Division-member Villanova the following week as BIG EAST play heats up. Pittsburgh, Marquette, Connecticut and Notre Dame round out a tough conference schedule for the Hoyas as GU heads into postseason play.
The Hoyas will face five NCAA Tournament teams from 2009 and six squads that appeared in the BIG EAST Tournament.
