Current, Former Hoya Women's Golfers Impressive in Events

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University sophomore women's golfer Simone Strauss (Palm Desert, Calif./Palm Desert) tied for first place at a recent amateur event, while former Georgetown University women's golfer Chelsea Curtis (C'09) continued her impressive play on the Duramed Futures Tour, with a second place showing this past weekend.

Strauss carded a 4-over par 220 and tied for first place among 21 golfers in the amateur championship flight at the WSGA Women's and Senior Women's Amateur Championship, held at The Cedars at Dungeness in Sequim, Wash. this past weekend.

The rising sophomore sandwiched rounds of 2-over par 74 between an even-par 72 for her 54-hole total.

Curtis, a three-time All-BIG EAST selection during her career on the Hilltop, fired a 5-under par 211 and tied for second place at the City of Hammond Classic in Indiana this past weekend. Curtis posted rounds of 3-under par 69 and consecutive scores of 1-under par 71 to earn the best finish of her professional career.

In nine events this year, Curtis is carrying a 72.26 stroke average. She has two top-10 finishes, three top-20 finishes and four among the top-30 overall.
