WASHINGTON - Volleyball's Tory Rezin (Morris, Ill./Morris) has been named captain of the 2010 Hoyas. Rezin, a junior libero, played in 113 sets last season and started all 30 matches. She finished first on the squad with 475 total digs and 38 service aces. Her 475 total digs broke the single season record which had been in place since 1991.
Last season, Rezin recorded a career-high 37 digs in a 3-2 loss to Seton Hall on Sept. 26 and a career-high five aces in a 3-2 loss to George Mason on Aug. 29.
The Hoyas open the season against George Washington this Friday at 5 p.m. at the DC Challenge. Friday's match will take place at Bender Arena on the American University campus and will be televised locally on RCN with a live web stream available on www.aueagle.com. The DC Challenge will continue Saturday, Aug. 28 at George Mason in Fairfax, Va. The Hoyas will play against George Mason at 1 p.m. and American at 5 p.m.
In last year's match between the two teams, George Washington took a 3-2 decision at the DC Challenge in Fairfax, Va. The Hoyas notched 61 kills against the Colonials, including 15 by Kortney Robinson, while Tory Rezin led the team with 18 digs and Ashley Malone tallied 49 assists.
