BALTIMORE, Md. - The Georgetown volleyball team (1-3) started to come back against Towson (5-0) but could not finish, falling 3-1 (25-19, 25-23, 23-25, 25-23). Ashley Malone (San Jose, Calif./St. Francis) hit .400 with 23 assists and Tory Rezin (Morris, Ill./Morris) tallied 16 digs in the Hoya effort.
After dropping the first two sets, the Hoyas took the third set, recording 10 kills and 12 digs. Kortney Robinson (Pleasant Grove, Utah/Pleasant Grove) and Elizabeth Riggins (Mission Viejo, Calif./Santa Margarita) each notched three kills. Up 24-20 in the set, the Tigers took the next three points before a service error gave the Blue & Gray the set, 25-23.
Down 24-19, GU fought off four match points with kills from Riggins and Samantha Trauth (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) and errors by Towson before dropping the set, 25-23. Robinson and Riggins again notched three kills each.
The Hoyas fought off two match points down 24-21 with a kill from Lindsay Wise (Raleigh, N.C./Raleigh Charter) and an error from Towson before dropping the set, 25-23. Wise had four kills in the second set.
The Blue & Gray started slow and could not recover in the first set. At 24-17 in favor of Towson, GU could only manage two points on a Tiger error and a Malone ace before falling 25-19.
"It is a disappointing loss," said Head Coach Arlisa Williams. "We played a scrappy Towson team and did not rise to the occasion tonight."
Georgetown looks to rebound against Bradley on Sept. 3 at 5 p.m. in College Park, Md., at the Maryland Invitational.
