Sept. 17, 2010

Box Score

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown volleyball team (8-5) extended its win streak to six with a three set win over Binghamton (4-7). Samantha Trauth (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) notched 14 kills, a .500 hitting percentage and nine digs and Kortney Robinson (Pleasant Grove, Utah/Pleasant Grove) recorded 11 kills, a .320 hitting percentage and six digs in the match. Tory Rezin (Morris, Ill./Morris) tallied nine digs while Lindsay Wise (Raleigh, N.C./Raleigh North) added five total blocks to the defensive effort. The set scores were 25-23, 25-18, 26-24.

In an exciting third set which featured 14 ties and five lead changes, the Hoyas fought off two match points to come back and win the set, 26-24. Tied at 24, Ashley Malone (San Jose, Calif./St. Francis) capitalized on an open opportunity to record one of her two match kills and put the Hoyas up 25-24. A block from Wise and Malone ended the set on the next point. Wise had three total blocks and three kills in the deciding set.

The first set, featuring 12 ties and three lead changes, was just as exciting as the third. After going back and forth for most of the set, GU had the set tied at 23. An error from Binghamton and a kill from Robinson put the set away at 25-23. Robinson and Trauth both notched seven kills in the set and Rezin added four digs.

Georgetown took control in the second set and did not let up. Wise and Trauth opened the set with a kill each and the Hoyas never lost the lead. Robinson ended the set, 25-18, on a service ace. Rezin again recorded four digs in the set while Annalee Abell (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) notched three kills and a .333 hitting percentage in the Hoya effort.

Head Coach Arlisa Williams was excited about the determination the team showed. "We did some things really well. What I love seeing is that fight that we've been playing with as of late," said Williams. "Our middles weren't as offensive as they usually are and both of our pin hitters [Robinson and Trauth] picked it up," Williams elaborated.

The Hoyas will continue to fight to keep their win streak alive. GU continues Classic action against East Carolina at 1 p.m. and Furman at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18.
