WASHINGTON - Hey Hoyas!

My name is Whitney Jencks and I am a sophomore defensive specialist from Arlington, South Dakota. This season is flying by. I cannot believe we have played sixteen matches this year already (over half of the thirty we are guaranteed to play)! It feels as if it was just yesterday we arrived on campus for preseason.

This past weekend we competed in the Georgetown Classic where we went 2-1. It was great to play a weekend at home after being on the road the past few weeks. Thanks to all the fans who came out and supported us! After beating both Binghamton University and East Carolina University, we fell to Furman University in the "championship" game. It was a disappointing end to a great tournament and a seven game win streak, but it has only motivated us to work harder in the gym.

This past Tuesday we took on University of Maryland-Baltimore County. After losing the first two sets, we were able to come back and win the next three. It was an exciting finish to our last midweek game.

This weekend we begin our BIG EAST play, taking on Syracuse on Friday at 7 p.m. and Marquette on Sunday at 1 p.m., both in McDonough Arena. We have been putting in a lot of time at the gym, both during practice and coming in for extra reps in preparation for the BIG EAST season to ensure us a spot in the BIG EAST Tournament later this fall. We are making visible progress and hope that you will come see what our team can do! Hope to see everyone this weekend and at the rest of our home matches this season!
