WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University volleyball team (10-7, 0-1 BIG EAST) fell to Syracuse (17-0, 1-0 BE) 3-1 on Friday. Vanessa Dorismond (Cary, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) recorded 13 kills and three total blocks and Lindsay Wise (Raleigh, N.C./Raleigh Charter) hit .350 with 11 kills. The set scores were 25-20, 18-25, 18-25, 14-25.

"It's the mental game that is causing us problems right now," said Head Coach Arlisa Williams. "We did some good things and got the ball to the middles throughout the match. We need to maintain our confidence and really believe more than anything else."

The Hoyas fell behind in the first set 7-3. After kills by Dorismond and Wise, the Hoyas capitalized on Orange errors to tie the game at eight. GU took the lead 9-8 on another kill from Wise and ended the set at 25-20 with yet another kill from Wise. Kortney Robinson (Pleasant Grove, Utah/Pleasant Grove) tallied six kills in the set.

The second set featured five ties early. With the score tied at seven, five errors allowed the Orange to take the lead at 12-7 and the Hoyas could not recover. The Blue & Gray were able to fight off two set points before falling 25-18 on a Syracuse kill. Wise notched five kills in the set.

During the third set, the Hoyas were able to tie the score five times but could not get a lead in a set that featured errant play by GU. The Blue & Gray tied the score at nine on a kill from Robinson but could not capitalize. GU fought off one set point before falling 25-18. Robinson recorded three kills in the set.

In the final set, Dorismond had six kills in six attempts but the Hoya effort could not overcome the Orange. The Hoyas fell behind 14-5 but were able to score the next four points on three kills from Dorismond and a Syracuse error to make the score 14-9. GU could not close the gap and fell 25-14.

The Blue & Gray look to rebound as they host BIG EAST opponent Marquette on Sunday, Sept. 26 1 p.m.
