WASHINGTON - Senior Alex Sebia (Plains, Pa./Scranton Prep) clinched the deciding match as the Georgetown University women's tennis team came up with a big 3-2 victory in the first match of the George Mason University 3+2 on Friday at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex.
Senior Lauren Greco (Oakmont, Pa./Shady Side Academy) started things off with a 6-0, 6-0 drubbing at No. 2 singles. The Blue & Gray fell in both doubles matches as Georgetown trailed needing the final two matches of the day to get the victory.
Graduate student Stephanie Wetmore (Mississauga, Ontario/Appleby College) continued her hot streak downing Mimi Homling at No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-4. It then came down to Sebia with the score tied at two.
Sebia dropped the first set, 7-5, but came back in the second with a crucial 6-4 win. Forcing the third, she managed to make each point count coming away with the 10-7 super tiebraker to win her match and make the Hoyas victorious, 3-2.
The Blue & Gray will continue play on Friday, traveling to George Mason University to finish out the 3+2 event with Virginia State and George Mason.
The Hoyas will also host Homecoming activities on Saturday welcoming back alums for doubles matches beginning at 10 a.m. at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex.
