WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's soccer team will open BIG EAST play at Cincinnati on Saturday. The Hoyas are looking to bounce back from a tough stretch over the past two weeks. Georgetown will kickoff against the Bearcats at 7 p.m.
Georgetown (2-3-1, 0-0 BIG EAST) tied the Princeton University Tigers last weekend before falling to the No. 22 University of Pennsylvania on Sunday. Senior Seth C'deBaca (Albuquerque, N.M./Sandia Prep) scored early against Princeton but tied the Tigers after a second-half goal. It was a similar situation on Sunday when Tommy Muller (Altamonte Springs, Fla./Trinity Prep) headed in a ball from C'deBaca, but the Quakers answered with three goals.
Junior Uche Onyeador (Sterling, Va./Potomac Falls), C'deBaca and freshman Steve Neumann (New Hope, Pa./Council Rock North) are all leading the squad in scoring with four points each. Matthew Brutto (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) is leading the squad with 22 saves in the net.
Cincinnati is 2-2-2 on the season, but has dropped its last two decisions. The Bearcats are led by junior Matt Bahner who has three goals for six points on the year. Mark Konitsch has two assists on the season to lead the squad. Senior Matt Williams has played all six games in goal with 19 saves.
The Bearcat defense has been tough this season allowing just 0.50 goals per game with three shutouts.
Georgetown is 2-1 all-time against Cincinnati. The last meeting was in the opening round of the 2008 BIG EAST Tournament at North Kehoe Field, the Hoyas came out on top, 3-1. The last time the Blue & Gray played in Cincinnati was a 2-1 loss during the 2007 season.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Gettler Stadium. Live stats and a webcast will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
