WASHINGTON - The Georgetown volleyball squad (2-5) will host Howard (1-6) on Wednesday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. at McDonough Arena. Under Head Coach Arlisa Williams, the Hoyas are 4-0 against Howard.
The Hoyas' starting lineup ranges in experience with freshmen Brooke Bachesta (Sammamish, Wash./Eastside Catholic) and Elizabeth Riggins (Mission Viejo, Calif./Santa Margarita) playing in six and seven matches, respectively and redshirt freshman Annalee Abell (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) also playing in six. Riggins leads the hitters on the team with a .283 hitting percentage.
Sophomore Lindsay Wise (Raleigh, N.C./Raleigh Charter) has started all seven matches with juniors Ashley Malone (San Jose, Calif./St. Francis) and captain Tory Rezin (Morris, Ill./Morris). Wise leads the squad with 30 blocks. Malone guides the offense with 245 assists while Rezin leads the defense with 91 digs.
Seniors Kortney Robinson (Pleasant Grove, Utah/Pleasant Grove) and Samantha Trauth (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) provide a mix of offense and defense. Robinson leads the team with 57 kills and Trauth has recorded 47 digs.
In last year's match between the two teams, the Blue & Gray swept Howard (25-23, 25-22, 25-18). Robinson notched nine kills and Rezin tallied nine digs in the match. Robinson currently leads the squad with 3.17 kills per set while Rezin is averaging a team-best 3.79 digs per set in the 2010 season.
The Hoyas have won two of their four home openers under Williams. In four seasons at Georgetown, the Hoyas are 41-75 under Williams.
At the Maryland Invitational this past weekend, the Hoyas finished 1-2, sweeping Fordham while falling to Bradley and Maryland. Wise was named to the Maryland Invitational All-Tournament Team.
