Gomez and Neumann Receive Weekly Accolades

Oct. 24, 2011

WASHINGTON - Two Georgetown University men's soccer players earned weekly honors this past week as the Hoyas went 1-0-1 in a pair of tough BIG EAST road matches that included a contest against the No. 1 University of Connecticut.

Freshman goalkeeper Tomas Gomez (Webster Groves, Mo./Webster Groves) was named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week, while sophomore forward Steve Neumann (New Hope, Pa./Council Rock North) earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll as well as recognition on the College Soccer News National Team of the Week and the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week.

Gomez had seven saves in two road games last week, including five against Blue Division-leader Marquette, as the Hoyas handed the Golden Eagles their first conference loss of the season. Gomez then made two saves in 110 minutes in a 0-0 draw at top-ranked Connecticut. It marked his seventh shutout of the season.

This is Gomez's first player of the week honor after three nods to the honor roll.

Neumann scored from the top of the box in the 80th minute of play and in the 84th minute he sent a volley just inside the left post with an assist from junior midfielder Andy Reimer (McLean, Va./Georgetown Prep) to propel the Hoyas past Marquette 3-2. He was also a part of Georgetown's 0-0 double overtime tie against No. 1 Connecticut.

This is third honor roll of the season and second consecutive.

Georgetown will close out the regular season with a two-game home stand beginning on Wednesday at 2 p.m., against the Pittsburgh University Panthers. Live stats and a video-only webcast will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
