WASHINGTON - The No. 19 Georgetown University men's soccer team will host the University of Pittsburgh Panthers in a BIG EAST Blue Division contest on Wednesday afternoon. The Hoyas have been solid at home this season with a mark of 5-2-0 on campus as the squad closes out the regular season with a pair of home matches.
Georgetown (9-3-4, 4-2-1 BIG EAST) is 1-1-1 in their last three BIG EAST games with a 3-0 loss against No. 12 Notre Dame, a 3-2 win over Marquette as well as a scoreless double overtime tie at the University of Connecticut. The Blue & Gray is tied for third in the conference with Providence College who they will host on Saturday.
Earlier this week, freshman goalkeeper Tomas Gomez (Webster Groves, Mo./Webster Groves) was named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week, while sophomore forward Steve Neumann (New Hope, Pa./Council Rock North) earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll as well as recognition on the College Soccer News National Team of the Week and the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week.
Additionally, junior defender Tommy Muller (Altamonte Springs, Fla./Trinity Prep) was named a Primetime Performer by CollegeSoccer360.com.
Leading the way for Georgetown is Neumann who has 24 points with nine goals, including five game winners, and six assists. Junior Andy Riemer (McLean, Va./Georgetown Prep) has 11 points on four goals and three assists and junior Ian Christianson (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Christian Life) has tallied four goals with one assist for nine points to rank third. Gomez (Webster Groves, Mo./Webster Groves) has been solid in the net with 56 saves and a GAA of 0.75 as well as seven shutouts to his credit.
The Hoyas have played in seven overtime games so far this season and have seven shutouts on the year.
Pittsburgh (4-11-1, 2-5-0 BIG EAST) comes to the Hilltop after only taking seven shots in their previous game on senior night against the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The Panthers have lost four-consecutive BIG EAST contests including two on the road.
Georgetown is 19-5 all-time against the Panthers, having won their last four meetings but only by a combined five goals. In their last meeting in 2010, the Hoyas edged out Pitt by a single goal at the Panther's home stadium. In that contest, Jose Colchao hit the game winner in the 78th minute. The Hoyas are 10-2 at home all time against the Panthers.
