Georgetown's Penn Relays Championship Team to be Honored as a 2011 Top Relay Team

Dec. 12, 2011

WASHINGTON - On Tuesday morning at the 2011 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Convention in San Antonio, Texas, Accusplit will honor the top relay teams of 2011 with the Georgetown's Penn Relays Championship distance medley relay garnering the NCAA Division I women's DMR honors. Accusplit, the leader in the professional stopwatch and timing industry since 1972, is recognizing the nation's best collegiate relay teams and their coaches. The breakfast will honor 42 relay teams with 14 (7 men's, 7 women's) in each NCAA division.

The Georgetown women's track & field team won the 2011 Penn Relays Championship with a time of 10:51.49, the first time the Hoyas have won the Penn Relays DMR since 1996, while also setting a new school record.

The team of former Hoya and four-time All-American Renee Tomlin running the 1,200-meter leg, school record-holder Amanda Kimbers (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) taking the 400-meter leg, All-American Chelsea Cox (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) at the 800 and now eight-time All-American Emily Infeld (University Heights, Ohio/Beaumont) at anchor (1,600 meters) ran the best collegiate time in the women's DMR of 2011, besting the 2011 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Women's DMR Champion Villanova with a winning time of 10:52.52 at the indoor championships. The distance medley relay is not an event at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

The Hoyas will take the remainder of December off before returning to action at the Father Diamond Invitational on Saturday, January 7, hosted by George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.
