WASHINGTON - Georgetown University women's basketball sophomore Sugar Rodgers (Suffolk, Va./King's Fork) was named to the Naismith Award Midseason Top 30 on Monday by the Atlanta Tipoff Club. The shooting guard was one of 30 players from 23 squads to earn a spot on the list.
Rodgers is averaging 18.7 ppg and 4.8 rpg to lead the squad in scoring and rank second in rebounding. She ranks second in the BIG EAST and 25th in the nation in scoring. Rodgers also has 63 steals and 65 assists to her credit so far this season. She has posted three double-doubles during the 2010-11 campaign and scored a career-best 30 points in the victory over No. 8 West Virginia at McDonough Arena.
The sophomore has earned two BIG EAST Player of the Week honors as well as six nods to the conference's weekly honor roll.
Rodgers was one of only three sophomores to earn a spot on the prestigious list as well as only a handful of players from the BIG EAST Conference.
The midseason 30 list was compiled by the Atlanta Tipoff Club's Board of Selectors, which based its criteria on player performances from the 2010-11 college basketball season. The Naismith Trophy, presented by AT&T, will be awarded to the top player in the women's game on April 4, 2011 at the NCAA Women's Final Four in Indianapolis, Ind.
No. 18/18 Georgetown is 20-6 on the season with four wins over ranked opponents. The Hoyas will play at DePaul on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. ET. The game will be televised live on ESPNU.
