Tomlin and Wilber Win BIG EAST Institutional Scholar-Athlete Awards

WASHINGTON - Track & field and cross country athlete Renee Tomlin (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) and men's soccer goalkeeper Mark Wilber (Tijeras, N.M./Albuquerque Academy) were announced as Georgetown's recipients of the American Eagle Outfitters BIG EAST Institutional Scholar-Athlete Award. Both have earned a $2,000 scholarship and were two of 32 honorees selected by the conference office.

Wilber is a three-year letterwinner who will be back for his final season in 2011. The goalkeeper has appeared in 22 career games with 20 starts to his credit. Wilber has posted 74 saves including 36 in 2009 and 33 in 2008. He has a record of 8-9-2 in the net and has posted seven shutouts.

In 2009, Wilber earned CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Second Team Academic All-American and won a BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week award. He is a biology major and a three-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star.

Tomlin is a three-time All-American and has won five BIG EAST Individual Championships. She holds the school record in the indoor DMR set at the 2010 NCAA Championship Meet. Tomlin also holds the school record in the outdoor 4x1,500-meter relay which was set at 2009 Penn Relays.

Tomlin was named CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District in 2010, she is also a four-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star. She earned her undergraduate degree majoring in French in 2010. Tomlin is currently pursuing her master's degree in linguistics.

The American Eagle Outfitters BIG EAST Scholar-Athlete of the Year award is one of a number of scholarships presented by the BIG EAST Conference and American Eagle Outfitters during the 2010-11 academic year. Thirty-two student-athletes (one male and one female from each of the BIG EAST's 16 member institutions) were named as the winners of the American Eagle Outfitters BIG EAST Institutional Scholar-Athlete Scholarships. Winners were selected by the conference's Academic Affairs Committee.
