WASHINGTON - After opening its spring schedule with a 15th place finish at the C&F Bank Intercollegiate last weekend, the Georgetown University men's golf team returns to action tomorrow morning when it tees off in the Fireline Towson Invitational. The 54-hole tournament is being played on Saturday and Sunday at the par 72, 6,659 yard Prospect Bay Country Club in Grasonville, Md.
The Hoyas are one of 17 teams participating in the tournament, joining Army, Boston College, Columbia, Cornell, Drexel, George Mason, Kent State, LIU, Longwood, Loyola, Navy, Rhode Island, Rutgers, Seton Hall, William & Mary and the host Towson Tigers.
GU finished tied for 12th in last year's tournament, won by UNC Greensboro. This year's field is without the defending champions, but welcomes Kent State, who won the team trophy in 2009 and boasts the tournament's last two medalists. Junior Brian Dorfman (Greenwood Village, Colo./Cherry Creek) was the Blue & Gray's top finisher in last year's event, shooting 14-over par, 230 to finish tied for 33rd.
Curtis Loop (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan/California) paced the Hoyas in last weekend's C&F Bank Intercollegiate in Williamsburg, Va. The sophomore transfer finished with a score of 175 (+4) to finish in a tie for 30th.
Play kicks off with 36 holes of continuous action on Saturday morning, beginning with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. The final 18 holes will be contested on Sunday starting at 7:30 a.m.
