Final Stats
WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's tennis team won its sixth-consecutive match on Sunday with a 6-1 victory over the Seton Hall University Pirates at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex. The win improved the squad to 9-8 overall and 5-2 in BIG EAST play with just two conference matches remaining before the BIG EAST Tournament.
The Blue & Gray swept doubles play to pick up the point. The No. 1 pair of graduate student Stephanie Wetmore and freshman Tina Tehrani won, 8-4. The duo is 8-1 on the season and has won its last five matches. At No. 2, sophomore Vicky Sekely and junior Lauren Greco managed the 8-2 win. The pair is a perfect 5-0 so far this year. Rounding out doubles play was sophomore Samantha Martin and classmate Alexandra Landers. The No. 3 squad won, 8-6, as GU made it 1-0.
Sekely quickly disposed of her opponent 6-0, 6-0 to start singles at No. 3. She was followed by No. 2 Greco who was ahead 7-5, 3-0 before her opponent retired making it 3-0. The clinching match was freshman Madeline Jaeger at No. 5 who managed the swift 6-1, 6-1 victory to give Georgetown the overall win.
No. 4 Tehrani and Landers at No. 6 both won making the final score 6-1.
The Hoyas will continue league play and their six-match home stand with Pittsburgh on Wednesday at the McDonough Ourtdoor Tennis Complex. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
