WASHINGTON - Junior transfer John Snyder (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) has joined the Georgetown University men's soccer squad for his final two years of eligibility. Snyder is a transfer from Virginia Tech University and will join the Hoyas for the fall season.
"We're happy to add John to the roster, he brings instant experience and versatility," said Georgetown University Men's Soccer Head Coach Brian Wiese. "He's a great addition to both the program and the University."
Snyder played and started in 18 games for the Hokies in 2010 recording five shots with two on goal. He received a medical hardship waiver in 2009 and played in nine contests as a freshman with two starts to his credit along with two shots.
"I'm thrilled with the opportunity to come to Georgetown," said Snyder. "It's a great environment with top-quality soccer as well as education. I hope to contribute both on and off the field."
The local product was a four-year starter at Walt Whitman High School and played club soccer with the Potomac Cougars. His club team won the Maryland State Championship in 2008 and he scored the game-winning goal in the county regional semifinals.
The junior will be enrolled this fall at Georgetown and has two seasons of eligibility remaining. Snyder was a business major at Virginia Tech.
Snyder first looked at Georgetown after playing on a Super 20's team last summer with Tommy Muller (Altlmonte Springs, Fla./Trinity Prep) and Andy Riemer (McLean, Va./Georgetown Prep).
