WASHINGTON - Georgetown University men's soccer players Ian Christianson (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Christian Life) and Tomas Gomez (Webster Groves, Mo./Webster Groves) were both named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday. Additionally, Christianson was named to the national team of the week by TopDrawerSoccer.com.
The Hoyas went 1-0-1 this past week in the Ivy League/BIG EAST Classic. On Friday, Georgetown tied the University of Pennsylvania, 1-1, in double overtime marking GU's fifth overtime game in the first six contests of the season. On Sunday at North Kehoe Field, the Hoyas shut out Princeton University, 3-0.
Christianson had two goals and an assist all coming in the Princeton victory. He connected on two penalty kicks and also assisted on a goal from freshman Tyler Rudy (Olney, Md./Sherwood) in the second half. Christianson is currently second on the squad in scoring with seven points coming on three goals and one assist. He is 2-2 on penalty kicks and has two game winners to his credit.
This is the first BIG EAST honor for the freshman Gomez. The goalkeeper was credited with the shutout against Princeton coming up with a number of key saves throughout the contest and totaling six stops in 90 minutes. On the year, Gomez has played and started in six games with 20 saves and a 3-1-1 record on the books along with three shutouts.
The Blue & Gray is currently 4-1-2 on the season with victories against opponents from the Pac-12, Big Ten and Ivy League.
Georgetown will open BIG EAST Conference play on Saturday at Villanova University. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
