WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's golf team returns to action this week, beginning play in the Gridiron Classic, hosted by the University of Notre Dame at the Warren Golf Course in South Bend, Ind.
The 54-hole tournament will start on Monday, Sept. 26 with the 12-team field playing 36 holes on the par-70, 7,023-yard course. The final round will be played on Tuesday.
In addition to the Hoyas, the field includes Eastern Michigan, Houston, Lamar, Miami (Ohio), Minnesota, Missouri, San Francisco, St. Mary's, UT-Arlington, Villanova and host Notre Dame.
The Hoyas opened the season two weeks ago, finishing in third place at the Maryland Intercollegiate, with senior Brian Dorfman (Greenwood Village, Colo./Cherry Creek) firing a 7-under par 206 to tie for medalist honors.
Georgetown's lineup will also include junior Curtis Loop (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) and senior co-captain Taylor Hall (Roswell, Ga./Trinity).
Loop was an All-BIG EAST selection last year and earned all-region honors while leading the team in stroke average. He opened the season with a tie for fifth place at 6-under par 207 at Maryland.
Hall, who played in nine tournaments last year and was third on the team with a 75.48 stroke average, opened the season by tying for 36th place in the Maryland event with a 6-over par 219.
The Georgetown lineup will also include a pair of freshmen, with Greg Podufal (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) and Brian Tohir (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) making their second-straight appearance lineup.
Podufal opened the season by tying for 24th place at 2-over par 215 in Maryland. He had been tied for 34th place entering the final round, but moved up 10 places after shooting a 1-over par 70.
Tohir finished in a tie for 40th at 8-ovrer par 221 in his first collegiate event, shooting a 3-over par 74 in the final round.
