Final Stats
WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's tennis team fell in a close one to the Rutgers University Scarlet Knights on Friday afternoon. The Hoyas led 3-2 going into the final two matches and battled for every point, but eventually lost by a score of 4-3. Georgetown is now 4-3 on the season and 1-1 in BIG EAST play.
Rutgers won the first doubles match, but the Hoyas came back to win the next two and pick up the point. The No. 1 pair of senior Lauren Greco and sophomore Kelly Comolli defeated Jennifer Holzberg and Vanessa Petrini, 8-6. Additionally, the No. 2 duo of junior Vicky Sekely and sophomore Tina Tehrani beat Stefanie Balasa and Noor Judeh by a score of 9-7 as the Hoyas went ahead, 1-0.
Rutgers won the first two singles matches, but Greco helped GU regain the lead with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 three-set victory over Holzberg at No. 1. Sophomore Madeline Jaeger made the score 3-2 with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 three-set win over Judeh at No. 5.
Unfortunately, the Scarlet Knights picked up the final two matches to edge the Hoyas by a score of 4-3.
Georgetown will be back in action over spring break as the squad heads down to Florida.
