Goodman Signs National Letter of Intent

April 16, 2012

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University Men's Soccer Head Coach Brian Wiese announced the addition of Bakie Goodman (Sarasota, Fla./Pine View School for the Gifted) to the program's incoming recruiting class. Goodman signed a National Letter of Intent and will begin coursework in January, before starting his soccer career on the Hilltop in August, 2013.

"Bakie is a versatile midfielder that is always around the ball and usually the one making things happen for his team," said Wiese. "Success tends to follow him and he reminds me of Ian Christianson with his workrate and the impact he makes on the field. He'll have the benefit of a full semester of training in the spring before his first year of competition and that's a huge advantage for any player."

Goodman has played on some of the top teams in the country including one season with an IMG U-16 Development Academy squad that qualified for the U.S. Development Academy Playoffs in 2011 as well as the Clearwater Chargers which has seen success in recent years. The midfielder has been a starter on his academy teams and is also the captain of his Clearwater Chargers U-16 team. He also spent time with FC Sarasota.

Goodman was a member of the U.S. U-15 National Team and earned MVP on his final day at camp. He was also a member of the Florida Olympic Development Program from 2008-11.

Outside of soccer, Goodman is a member of the National Honor Society and also works with Habitat for Humanity.

The Hoyas have six players coming in this fall with what some consider the best class that Wiese has brought to the Hilltop. They will join an experienced group of returners as the Blue & Gray lost just three players to graduation. The twenty returning players provided a large percentage of the squad's 2011 point production, Georgetown boasts its top five goal scorers returning to the pitch.
