Infeld and Miltenberg Earn Regional Honors

June 4, 2012

WASHINGTON - NCAA Champion and 10-time All-American Emily Infeld (University Heights, Ohio/Beaumont) and Associate Head Coach of Track & Field Chris Miltenberg were honored by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) today for an outstanding outdoor season thus far. Infeld was named the Mid-Atlantic region's Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year while Miltenberg was tabbed the Assistant Women's Coach of the Year for the Mid-Atlantic region for the third time in four years. The awards are voted on by the nation's coaches who are members of the USTFCCCA, the governing body of collegiate track & field.

Infeld earns the honor after a successful overall year that started with the junior All-American leading the Hoyas to an NCAA Championship in cross country, the first in the history of the program. Infeld then went on to earn her first individual NCAA Championship in the women's 3,000-meter run during the indoor season, where she also garnered honors as the Mid-Atlantic region's Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year. Infeld has qualified for the NCAA Championships in the women's 1,500-meter run and prior to the east preliminary rounds held May 24-26 in Jacksonville, recorded the third-fastest time nationally in the 1,500 (4:12.44). She finished second in the event at the BIG EAST Championships. Though she is not competing in the event in the postseason, Infeld recorded the seventh-fastest time in the women's 5,000-meter run (15:34.26) during the regular season.

Miltenberg receives the honor of Assistant Women's Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year for the Mid-Atlantic region for the third time in four years, missing out only in 2010. Miltenberg oversees the middle-distance and distance programs on the Hilltop. The Hoyas will send seven student-athletes in five events to the NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa from June 6-9 and four student-athletes in three events fall under his direction.

"I'm honored to be recognized by my peers," Miltenberg said. "This award is really a testament to the great student-athletes we have here at Georgetown and what they are doing every weekend during competition. We truly believe the best part of the season is still ahead of us."

The Hoyas will return to action at the NCAA Championships held at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa June 6-9. Coverage will be available via NCAA.com and ESPN3.com starting Wednesday, June 6 with live coverage on ESPNU available on Saturday, June 9.
