Austin, Texas. (June 9, 2012) - Friday night was the final ICSA awardsbanquet in Austin, Texas after the last day of racing for theICSA/Gill Coed Dinghy National Championship. The Coed and Crew ICSAAll-Americans, Everett B. Morris Trophy for the College Sailor of theYear, Robert H. Hobbs Sportsmanship Award and the Leonard M. FowleTrophy for the Best Overall Team were presented. The names of thewinners will be added to the ICSA Hall of Fame display located in theRobert Crown Center at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.
A committee of coaches who represent the seven conferences in the ICSAselects the ICSA All-America Team. For selecting the All-Americans thecommittee evaluates a competitor based on their competitive record ininter-conference competition as well as conference and nationalchampionships. The committee analyzes how this record compares tofellow competitors, the quality of the competition the record wasachieved in, the span of the record over the fall and spring seasons, results achieved with different crews, and how the record compares toprevious All-American winners in past years.
For All-American crew selections, the committee uses criteria similarto skipper selection, but also considers: demonstrated leadership (mayconsider seniority), outstanding body mechanics and boat handlingskills as well as proven ability to improve the results of theskipper(s) with whom he or she sails.
The Everett B. Morris Trophy is awarded annually to the College Sailorof the Year for outstanding performance at the highest level ofsailing in the collegiate year.
