Women's Tennis Opens Fall at UMW Kickoff Classic

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's tennis team opened the fall season on Saturday at the University of Mary Washington Kickoff Classic in Fredericksburg, Va. The Hoyas had four players compete for the championship in their respective flights with three winning for a good start to the season.

Senior Victoria Sekely (Mississaga, Ontario/Lorne Park Secondary School) won a pair of singles matches over opponents from both Delaware State University as well as Washington and Lee University. The wins advanced her to the Flight "A" championship match which she won on Sunday.

In Flight "B", sophomore Sophie Panarese (Milton, Mass./Milton Academy) also made it to the championship match defeating opponents from Delaware State and Mary Washington. She won the championship on Sunday to continue Georgetown's success.

Finally, in Flight "C", freshman Taylor Perz (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) and graduate student Liz Hamlin faced off in the championship match on Sunday after both went undefeated in the opening rounds. Perz took the championship on Sunday.

In doubles play, the pairs of Panarese and Perz as well as Hamlin and junior Kelly Comolli (Newburyport, Mass./Philips Exeter Academy) both won their doubles flight.

Georgetown will be back in action next weekend as the squad hosts the Georgetown Classic at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex.
