Neumann and Gomez Earn Weekly Honors

Oct. 7, 2013

WASHINGTON - Senior captain Steve Neumann (New Hope, Pa./Council Rock North) and junior goalkeeper Tomas Gomez (Webster Groves, Mo./Webster Groves) both earned weekly honors on Monday as they helped the No. 11 Georgetown University men's soccer squad (8-2-1, 1-0-1 BIG EAST) to a 2-0 week.

Neumann was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week after tallying three goals and two assists for an impressive eight points on the week. His point total helped him surpass the 100-career point mark making him just the fourth Hoya in program history to do so.

Neumann assisted on the game winner in the 85th minute in a 1-0 victory at American on Tuesday as the Hoyas closed out nonconference play. He followed that up with his second-career hat trick in an 8-0 victory over Seton Hall University on Saturday at Shaw Field. Neumann also posted an assist in the win.

This is the fourth weekly award for the Blue & Gray this season and Neumann's second of his career. Additionally, he was named to the CollegeSoccerNews.com National Team of the Week for his efforts.

Gomez earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for being a part of two shutouts this week. He tallied three saves in the pair of victories including two at American and one against Seton Hall. Gomez has an impressive six shutouts so far this season as the Hoya keepers have combined for a total of eight.

The nod to the honor roll is the second this season for Gomez and the fourth for the Blue & Gray. The goalkeeper has had six honor roll awards in his career.

The Hoyas will be on the road for the next two contests. Georgetown will travel to Providence, R.I., to take on the Friars on Wednesday at 3 p.m. The game will be the inaugural contest at Ray Treacy Track. Live stats will be available through Providence's athletic website.
