Women's Tennis Takes Down NOVA Southeastern

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University's women's tennis program won its second straight dual match in Florida by defeating NOVA Southeastern, 5-2, in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Georgetown's overall dual match record stands at 7-3.

The Hoyas won five of six singles events to earn the victory over NOVA Southeastern. GU was down early, losing the doubles point after winning only at No. 1. The Hoyas' top tandem of Elizabeth Hamlin (Haverford, Pa./The Episcopal School) and Victoria Sekely (Mississaga, Ontario/Lone Park Secondary School) won 8-5.

In singles the Hoyas pulled out straight set victories on courts two through five. At No. 2 Kelly Comolli (Newburyport, Mass./Philips Exeter Academy) won 6-1, 6-2. No. 3, Madeline Jaeger (Laguna Beach, Calif./Laguna Beach), earned a 6-2, 6-0 win. Sophie Panarese (Milton, Mass./Milton Academy) was victorious at No. 4, 7-5, 6-1 and Hamlin won at No. 5, 6-1, 6-0. Closing out the Hoya singles winners was Taylor Perz (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland), who pulled out a three setter at No. 6, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2.

The Hoyas play their next three matches in Washington, D.C. at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex. Georgetown begins its home stand against James Madison on Thursday, March 14 at 2:30 p.m. GU then takes on Bryant University on Friday, March 15 at 2 p.m. and finishes up Saturday, March 16, at noon against William & Mary.
