WASHINGTON - Campbell University claimed the team crown at the 2013 Hoya Invitational after shooting a 30-over par 894 during the 54-hole event held at The Members Club at Four Streams and hosted by Georgetown University. Finishing second in the event was Yale with a 907 while the host Hoyas closed the event in seventh place with a 93-over par 957.
Campbell entered the day in first place and held onto the trophy by firing a third round team low 290. Yale shot a 296 on the day and totaled a 43-over par 907. Seton Hall claimed third place with a 54-over par 918. Both Nova Southeastern and University of Pennsylvania closed the day tied for fourth (55-over par 919).
Harin Lee of St. John's won the tournament by a single stroke over both Lisbeth Brooks of Campbell and Amanda Chin of Pennsylvania, who tied for second. Lee was one of three golfers along with Chin to post a 69 in the final round and fired a 1-under par 215 over the three days.
Georgetown closed the third round with its best round of the tournament firing 25-over par 313. In the two rounds played yesterday the Hoyas shot a 316 and 328, respectively. GU was six strokes off sixth place St. John's, who shot an 87-over par 951.
Junior Alice Choi (Whitestone, N.Y./Bayside) ended the competition tied for 15th closing the tournament with a third round score of 76. She finished 16-over par, 232 (78-78-76).
Freshman Mackenzie Boydston (Keller, Texas/Nolan Catholic) started the day tied for 32nd and ended it in the same place after shooting a 23-over par 239 (77-85-77). Fellow freshman Liz DiVincentis (Durham, Conn./Coginchaug Regional) shot a 26-over par 242 (80-82-80) and placed 36th.
Other scorers for Georgetown were senior Audrey Dalton (Portland, Ore./St. Mary's Academy), who tied for 40th (81-84-81=246), and sophomore Viktoria Lager (Princeton, N.J./West Florida Christian School), who ended in a tie for 55th (88-84-80=252).
Freshman Patricia Lee (Lone Tree, Colo./Highlands Ranch), senior Katie Skinner (Boise, Idaho/Bishop Kelly) and junior Stefanie Soelling (Everett, Wash./Everett) all competed as individuals for GU. Lee had the best finish tying for 29th with a 22-over par 238 (73-81-84). Skinner tied for 38th (82-82-81=245) and Soelling tied fellow Hoya Lager for 55th (82-84-86=252).
The Hoyas next head to the BIG EAST Championship held in Orlando, Fla. from April 21-23.
