GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Georgetown's women's volleyball team was handed the tough task of facing fifth-ranked Florida on its home court, but the Hoyas were outlasted by the Gators, who won in three sets (25-14, 25-14, 25-10).

GU got help from Lauren Saar (six kills), Dani White (three kills) and Alex Johnson (three kills) on the attack, while MacKenzie Simpson held down the middle with 10 digs.

The Hoyas kept things tight early, and thanks to some Florida errors, knotted the early contest up at 9-9. GU's run, however, was stemmed by a UF block party -- the Gators tallied 16 over the Hoyas in the first set alone. Florida managed a 16-5 run to close out the first game, 25-14. Alex Johnson led the GU attack in the first with a pair of kills and three digs for the Hoyas.

After opening the second frame with a 10-3 deficit, the Hoyas managed to get back into things following a Dani White ace and a pair of Lauren Saar kills got the ball rolling. But after Johnson and Saar captured back-to-back kills to bring Georgetown within eight, 18-10, but the Gators took the reins once again and captured another 25-14 set to extend its match lead to 2-0.

Georgetown once again kept things very close in the early going, thanks in part by Saar's attack, and got as close as three, 8-5, but the Gators were able to pull away following an 11-3 run in the middle of the frame. GU managed to score a few more times, including a great kill by Brooke Bachesta, set up by Caitlin Brauneis, but Florida took the set, 25-10, and the match after back-to-back GU erros ended things.

The Hoyas will continue on with battles against Western Michigan (10 a.m.) and Iona (5:30 p.m.) on Saturday.
