Jan. 28, 2014

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball team (7-13, 1-7 BIG EAST) will host the Villanova University Wildcats (14-5, 4-4 BIG EAST) in a BIG EAST Conference matchup on Wednesday at 7 p.m., at McDonough Arena. Wednesday is the annual Kids Take Over McDonough event where children will help run the game including team managers, stat keepers and public address.

On Monday, senior captain Andrea White (Lancaster, Va./Lancaster) was named to the BIG EAST Conference Weekly Honor Roll after a solid week for the Blue & Gray. It was White's fifth nod to the honor roll this season and sixth award so far this year.

White averaged 19.5 points and 8.0 rebounds over two games. She led the Hoyas in both contests with 21 points against DePaul and 18 at St. John's in a tough three-point loss, shooting 48.6 percent from the field.

Georgetown dropped a 92-69 decision to DePaul at home on Wednesday. GU was solid in the first but couldn't stop the Blue Demons in the second half. On Sunday, the Hoyas fell 63-60 at St. John's in a battle that went back and for the entire contest.

Leading the way for the Hoyas is White with 16.1 ppg and 9.0 rpg. Freshman center Natalie Butler (Fairfax Station, Va./Lake Braddock) is second with 14.6 ppg as well as a BIG EAST-leading 13.1 rpg. Sophomore guard Katie McCormick (Leonardtown, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) and freshman forward Faith Woodard (Brandon, Fla./Freedom) round out those in double figures with 10.8 and 10.0 ppg, respectively.

The team is outrebounding opponents by 9.1 rpg and shooting 42.0 percent on the season from the field.

Villanova made 10 three-point field goals and held visiting Xavier to 24.6 percent shooting en route to a 61-32 victory on Saturday. With the win, Villanova improved to 14-5 overall and 4-4 in BIG EAST play. Senior guard Devon Kane led all scorers with 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field to go with seven rebounds and three steals. Emily Leer finished with 12 points, five rebounds, four assists and two blocks, while Katherine Coyer had 10 points with all 10 coming in the first half. Kavunaa Edwards added seven rebounds and a game-high 11 rebounds.

The Hoyas are 19-34 all-time against the Wildcats and 12-11 at home. Last year, the teams met twice. Georgetown fell, 57-44, during the regular season at McDonough Arena. In the BIG EAST Tournament Second Round, Georgetown lost, 89-58. Sugar Rodgers set the tournament record for points in a single game with 42.

The game is scheduled to tip at 7 p.m., at McDonough Arena. Live stats and a webcast will be available through www.GUHoyas.com.
