Women's Basketball Travels to Marquette on Saturday

Jan. 31, 2014

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball team (7-14, 1-8 BIG EAST) will travel to Milwaukee, Wis., for a BIG EAST Conference road matchup against the Marquette University Golden Eagles on Saturday at 5 p.m. ET. The game marks the first in the second half of conference play.

Earlier this week, the Hoyas fell to Villanova at home, 59-49. Georgetown had a big second-half comeback but couldn't overcome a tough first half. Freshman center Natalie Butler (Fairfax Station, Va./Lake Braddock) posted the double-double with a game-high 19 points and 14 boards, she went 9-of-10 from the field. Senior forward Andrea White (Lancaster, Va./Lancaster) led the way on the glass with 15 rebounds while contributing eight points and freshman forward Faith Woodard (Brandon, Fla./Freedom) was second in scoring with 11 points and nine rebounds.

On Monday, White was named to the BIG EAST Conference Weekly Honor Roll after a solid week for the Blue & Gray. It was White's fifth nod to the honor roll this season and sixth award so far this year.

White averaged 19.5 points and 8.0 rebounds over two games. She led the Hoyas in both contests with 21 points against DePaul and 18 at St. John's in a tough three-point loss, shooting 48.6 percent from the field.

Leading the way for the Hoyas is White with 15.7 ppg and 9.3 rpg. Butler is second with 14.8 ppg as well as a BIG EAST-leading 13.1 rpg. Sophomore guard Katie McCormick (Leonardtown, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) and freshman forward Faith Woodard (Brandon, Fla./Freedom) round out those in double figures with 10.3 and 10.0 ppg, respectively.

The team is outrebounding opponents by 10.0 rpg and shooting 41.6 percent on the season from the field.

Despite five players in double figures, a late surge fell just short as Marquette dropped a 91-85 decision at DePaul Wednesday evening. Junior Cristina Bigica led the Golden Eagles (13-6, 4-4) with a career-high 19 point effort, while classmate Chelsie Butler also had a career high night with 15 points. Senior Katherine Plouffe, junior Arlesia Morse and sophomore Brooklyn Pumroy each tallied 11 points. Plouffe recorded her eighth double double of the season with a game-high 11 rebounds.

MU pounded the glass with a significant 52-29 rebounding advantage and shot 50 percent (32-64) from the floor.

The Hoyas are 1-8 all-time against the Golden Eagles and 1-2 on the road. In the last meeting, Georgetown fell 82-80 in overtime at McDonough Arena. GU had four players in double figures led by White with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Butler managed 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Woodard had 11 and McCormick scored 10.

The game is scheduled to tip at 5 p.m. ET. Live stats and a webcast will be available through the Golden Eagles' athletic website.
