Oct. 17, 2014 WASHINGTON - The No. 3 Georgetown University men's soccer squad will continue BIG EAST Conference play at Seton Hall University (3-6-3, 0-3-1 BIG EAST) on Saturday afternoon at Owen T. Carroll Field at 1 p.m. The Hoyas are currently 7-2-4 on the season and 2-1-1 in BIG EAST Conference play.
On Monday, junior defender Keegan Rosenberry (Ronks, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, marking the third-consecutive week that a Georgetown player has won the award. The men's soccer team went 1-0-0 last week in BIG EAST play.
Rosenberry led a Georgetown defense that did not allow a single DePaul shot in the second half of Saturday's 2-0 victory in Chicago. Following a scoreless first half, the Hoya defense clamped down and let the offense go to work, with GU outshooting DPU 8-0 over the second 45:00. Rosenberry even contributed offensively by netting the game-winner at 69:59 for his first-career goal. The Blue Demons managed just one shot on goal for the game and four total shots.
It was the second time in his career that Rosenberry won the award and the Hoyas' fourth Defensive Player of the Week honor this season.
Junior forward Brandon Allen (Old Bridge, N.J./St. Joseph) leads the team and the conference in scoring with 20 points on nine goals and two assists. Sophomore forward Alex Muyl (New York, N.Y./Bard) is second on the team with ten points and a league-best six assists, while senior midfielder Tyler Rudy (Olney, Md./Sherwood), freshman midfielder Arun Basuljevic (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac), sophomore midfielder Bakie Goodman (Sarasota, Fla./Pine View School for the Gifted) and senior midfielder Austin Martz (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) are tied for third with four points apiece. Senior goalkeeper Tomas Gomez (Webster Groves, Mo./Webster Groves) has seven shutouts on the season and has tallied 31 saves so far this year.
Seton Hall recorded its first point of the conference season with a 1-1 draw at Villanova on Wednesday afternoon. Senior Kai Greene converted a penalty kick in the 88th minute to lead the Pirates' comeback. The tie at Villanova represented the first BIG EAST road points for Seton Hall since a 1-1 draw at Providence back on Oct. 17, 2009. The Pirates were awarded three penalty kicks at Villanova, all coming in the second half on hand balls in the box. Seton Hall was forced to come back and hold on for the tie at Villanova while playing a man down for the final 27:08 of the match after freshman Lukas Pangonis was sent off with his second yellow card in the 83rd minute. Pangonis will subsequently miss Saturday's tilt with Georgetown.
Georgetown is 16-15-2 all-time against the Pirates. Last season, the Hoyas defeated Seton Hall, 8-0, at Shaw Field as Steve Neumann scored a hat trick. In the last meeting in New Jersey, the Blue & Gray came away with the 2-0 victory. It was the first of back-to-back contests against the Pirates to close out the 2012 regular season.
Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET. Live stats and a webcast will be available through the Pirates' athletic website.
