Adomako and Woodard Earn Preseason BIG EAST Honors

Oct. 22, 2014

NEW YORK CITY - Freshman guard Dorothy Adomako (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) and sophomore forward Faith Woodard (Brandon, Fla./Freedom) both earned BIG EAST Conference Preseason honors at the league's annual women's basketball media day held at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Wednesday. Additionally, the Hoyas were picked to finish eighth in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll receiving 26 points.

The event was attended by first-year Head Coach Natasha Adair, Adomako and Woodard as well as junior captain Katie McCormick (Leonardtown, Md./St. Mary's Ryken).

Adomako was named the BIG EAST Preseason Rookie of the Year making it the second for the Georgetown program. The freshman forward hails from Midlothian, Va., where she was a McDonald's All-American nominee helping her high school team to an undefeated state championship. Adomako earned state, region and district player of the year honors in her career while also exceling in the classroom as a member of the honor roll. Adomako played AAU with Boo Williams Elite.

Woodard had an outstanding freshman campaign and is GU's leading returning scorer averaging 10.2 ppg including 10.8 ppg in league play. She appeared in all 32 games with 26 starts to her credit and averaged 4.3 rpg. Woodard was second on the squad in assists with 80 and ranked third in both steals and blocks with 32 and 26, respectively. Last season, she was named to the BIG EAST All-Freshman squad.

The Blue & Gray was selected to finish eighth in the conference with 26 points. Georgetown's highest preseason ranking was four years ago when the Hoyas were selected to finish third in the highly-competitive league.

DePaul, which earned an at-large bid to the 2014 NCAA Women's Basketball Championship, was named the top pick to win the league in the 2014-15 BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Blue Demons had nine first-place votes, while St. John's received one to sit in second. Villanova, Creighton and Seton Hall rounded out the top five. Providence and Marquette sat just above of the Hoyas with Xavier and Butler completing the poll.

Georgetown will open the season on November 14 at McDonough Arena against the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks.
