Georgetown Wraps Up Day One at Rainy Firestone Invitational

AKRON, Ohio - The Georgetown University men's golf team finished the first two rounds during a rainy day at the Firestone Invitational presented by FirstEnergy Solutions. The Hoyas currently sit 16th overall in the 17-team field at the 7,215 yard, par-72, Firestone Country Club.

Freshman Sam Madsen (Madison, Wis./Edgewood/Cardinal Gibbons (Fla.)) led the Hoyas and is currently tied for 20th overall. Madsen carded a three-over par 75 in the first round, before shooting an even-par 72 to finish 36 holes with a three-over par 147. Fellow freshman Cole Berman (Philadelphia, Pa./The Haverford School) tied Madsen in the first round with a score of 75, before shooting a 76 in the second round to finish the day seven-over par 151.

The Hoyas shot a team score of 21-over par 309 during a cool and windy first round, before rain set in early in the afternoon. Despite the rain, the Blue & Gray improved by eight strokes in the second round turning in a team score of 13-over par 301 to finish at 34-over par 610 for the day. No team finished under par for the day, as Xavier leads the field at one-over par 577, while host Akron finished tied with USC-Aiken at six-over par 582.

Junior Raleigh Chapin (Doylestown, Pa./New Hope Solebury) finished the day shooting an 11-over par 155. Chapin shot a four-over par 76 in the first round, before needing an extra three strokes to complete round two. Freshman Jack Musgrave (Chesterton, Ind./Andrean) turned in an 11-over par 83 in the the first, before improving by eight strokes with a 75 to finish 14-over for the day. Sophomore Austin Rendell (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) finished at 18-over par 162 to round out the GU competitors.

Play at the Firestone Invitational resumes at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning for the final 18 holes.
