Nov. 27, 2014 WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball team will host the University of Florida Gators (3-1) on Friday at McDonough Arena at 7 p.m. The Hoyas are currently 2-4 on the season and 2-0 at McDonough Arena.
Last week, the women's basketball team went 1-3 playing four games in five days. The Hoyas defeated Loyola University (Md.), 71-44, at home on Wednesday as freshman Dorothy Adomako (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) posted her third-consecutive double-double.
At the 2014 Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Women's Challenge in Lawrence, Kan., GU dropped three contests falling to Temple University (81-58), the University of Alabama (72-58) and the University of Kansas (55-42). The tournament will conclude on Sunday as the Hoyas play Holy Cross in a neutral-site matchup at Mohegan Sun.
Adomako is leading the team in scoring with 11.2 ppg and has posted a squad-high 8.8 rpg. Dominique Vitalis (Bloomfield, N.J./Gill St. Bernard's) is second with 10.7 ppg as well as 5.8 rpg and junior guard Katie McCormick (Leonardtown, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) rounds out the top three with 8.7 ppg.
Georgetown holds a +2.2 rebounding margin over opponents and is shooting 34.3 percent on the season.
After Florida trailed by five points with 8:34 left in the first half, the Gator women's basketball team closed the first stanza on a 31-4 run that helped the Orange and Blue to a 92-64 victory over Charleston Southern on Tuesday evening. Redshirt junior Cassie Peoples propelled the Gators to victory, pouring in a season-high 17 points and matching a season-high with seven assists. In her first collegiate start, freshman Haley Lorenzen matched Peoples' production and contributed a career-high 17 points. Freshman Brooke Copeland and junior January Miller added 15 and 11 points, respectively.
The Hoyas are 1-3 all-time against the Gators and 0-1 at McDonough Arena. The lone home meeting was a 74-63 loss during the 1997-98 season. Last year, Georgetown fell 67-65 in overtime in Gainesville. Jade Martin (Bloomington, Minn./John F. Kennedy) posted a career-best 16 points in the game.
