Four Hoyas Earn All-Region Honors

Dec. 10, 2014

WASHINGTON - Four members of the Georgetown University men's soccer squad earned 2014 NSCAA/Continental Tire All-Great Lakes Region honors on Wednesday. Junior forward Brandon Allen (Old Bridge, N.J./St. Joseph) and sophomore defender Joshua Yaro (Santa Barbara, Calif./Cate School) both earned first team nods. Senior goalkeeper Tomas Gomez (Webster Groves, Mo./Webster Groves) earned a spot on the second team, and junior defender Keegan Rosenberry was named to the third team.

Yaro, a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist, was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year and was a unanimous selection to the first team. He has been a key part of Georgetown's 10 shutouts this season, including a league-best six in the nine conference games played. He also got into the action on offense with an assist coming at Princeton. Yaro earned BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week honors on three occasions this season and was a member of the Preseason All-BIG EAST squad.

This is his second nod to the all-region squad after earning a spot on the second team as a freshman.

Allen was GU's other first team selection after another impressive campaign. He led the team in scoring with 11 goals and three assists for 25 points on the year. This includes three game winners and a mark of 3-3 on penalty kicks. He ranked first in the BIG EAST Conference in goals and second in points as well as first in goals per game.

Allen was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 29 and earned two nods to the Weekly Honor Roll. He currently ranks seventh in career points (86), sixth in career goals (38) and has ranked every year on the Hilltop in season goals.

This is his third-career all-region honor and his second to the first team.

Gomez was named Second Team All-BIG EAST after a solid senior season. He had 10 shutouts on the season as well as 54 saves and a 0.61 GAA. He ranks 11th in the nation in GAA and second in the BIG EAST Conference. As a team, the Hoyas are eighth in the nation in GAA.

This is his third nod to an all-region squad after earning a spot on the second team a season ago.

Rosenberry was named to the BIG EAST Second Team for the second-consecutive season at the end of conference play. Rosenberry helped the Hoyas to 10 shutouts including a league-best six in conference play. On offense, he managed a goal at DePaul and an assist in the victory over Wisconsin. Rosenberry was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 13.

This is his first all-region honor.

The Hoyas finished the season 14-4-5 on the season and advancing to the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals before failing to advance against Virginia.
