Dec. 5, 2014 WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball team (2-6) will head out on the road to take on the Princeton University Tigers (7-0) at Stockwell Jadwin Gymnasium on Saturday at 2 p.m. The contest will be broadcast on the Ivy League Digital Network.
Last weekend, the team had chances, but couldn't make a small comeback, falling to the College of Holy Cross Crusaders on Sunday in the final game of the 2014 Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Women's Challenge at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville,Conn.
Junior guard Katie McCormick (Leonardtown, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) led the way with 19 points including four 3-pointers. Junior guard Logan Battle (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) and freshman guard Dorothy Adomako (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) rounded out those in double figures with 13 and 10, respectively. Junior forward Dominique Vitalis (Bloomfield, N.J./Gill St. Bernard's) pulled down a game-high 14 boards. Georgetown was outrebounded, 50-45, and shot 39.1 percent in the contest, while the defense held Holy Cross to 35.9 percent shooting from the field.
Adomako is leading the team in scoring with 12.1 ppg and has posted a squad-high 8.9 rpg. Vitalis is second with 10.9 ppg as well as 7.1 rpg and McCormick rounds out the top three with 10.5 ppg.
Georgetown holds a +2.5 rebounding margin over opponents and is shooting 35.7 percent on the season.
Princeton defeated Wake Forest (72-55), Montana (80-55) and Charlotte (73-43) last week en route to the Mayan Division championship at the 2014 Cancun Challenge. Trailing for just 47 seconds in three games, the Tigers held a lead of at least 20 points in all three contests. Senior guard Blake Dietrick was named to the Cancun Challenge All-Tournament team. Dietrick averaged 10.7 points, 3.7 assists and 3.0 rebounds, shooting 41.4 (12-29) from the floor and 46.7 (7-15) percent from three-point range.
The Hoyas are 3-1 all-time against the Tigers with a mark of 0-1 in New Jersey. Last year, Georgetown won 66-64 at McDonough Arena as Andrea White led the way with 23 points and seven rebounds. In the last meeting at Princeton, Georgetown fell, 71-44, during the 1997-98 season.
